My research concerns race and social inequality, social movements, culture, and politics. My dissertation examines commemorative movements around a variety of early 20th Century massacres of African Americans in the United States, asking why some incidents have seen extensive commemoration while others that seem very similar have seen none. I have also published research on argumentation in debates around same-sex marriage. For more on my research see my CV or the Research page.
I have taught classes including Introduction to Sociology, Race and Ethnic Relations, Race, Class, & Gender, and Social Stratification. My classes ask a lot out of students and have received excellent evaluations. For more on my teaching, see the Courses and Pedagogy pages.
